The Ask
To create a modern brand identity for a new ramen restaurant, Wagamama. The challenge was to reflect the duality of the concept – freedom of individuality (Wagamama) and the philosophy of continuous improvement (Kaizen).
THE SOLUTION
The logo transforms the word Wagamama into a visual story: the ending ‘-amama’ is shaped as flowing ramen noodles, completed with a pair of chopsticks above. This playful yet refined detail highlights the restaurant’s focus on both creativity and craftsmanship. The noodle element becomes the key graphic motif, repeated throughout the brand identity, creating a consistent and memorable visual system.
The color palette is built around red, a hue that instantly attracts attention, stimulates appetite, and conveys energy. In the context of Wagamama, red also adds a bold, rebellious touch – symbolizing freedom and individuality – while remaining positive and inviting. Combined with clean minimalism and subtle Japanese references, the branding strikes a balance between playful expression and refined modernity, aligning with the restaurant’s philosophy of individuality and perfection in details.
