The Ask
To create a distinctive identity for Rocco’s — an artisanal gelato brand rooted in Sicilian tradition and made for a contemporary urban audience.
The challenge was to translate the warmth of family recipes, handmade craft, and nostalgic Italian summers into a brand that feels authentic and full of character — without falling into familiar Italian clichés.
The Solution
The identity is built around the idea of beautiful imperfection — celebrating the human touch behind traditional gelato making.
A raw, expressive wordmark is paired with typewriter-inspired typography and a collection of hand-stamped illustrations referencing ingredients, flavors, and everyday Sicilian life. Uneven textures, imperfect edges, and visible print marks give the system the feeling of something made by hand rather than manufactured.
A warm, earthy palette of deep brown, olive green, burnt orange, and soft cream brings the visual world together, balancing nostalgia with a contemporary sensibility.
Across packaging, cups, merchandise, and communication, the illustrations can be rearranged and combined freely, creating a flexible visual language while keeping every touchpoint unmistakably Rocco’s.
The result is an identity that feels tactile, warm, and personal — bringing the spirit of a slow Sicilian summer into the rhythm of the city.
